Monthly Themes
A New Month. A New Story. A New You.
Every month, Tunnel Vision strives to provide its contributors and its readers with a different focus. We build and design themes that help encourage exploratory writing and help break down personal barriers and blocks. Work will be published according to these themes, but can be submitted at any time to be used later.
October: The Haunted Tunnel- Create a fear landscape, telling what scares you, showing how you scare others
Bonus for October: Shark Week! The saltiest collection of sea stories about sharks to shiver your timbers. Suspense is this week's specialty.
November: War and Peace- November is a time for celebrating differences and contrast. As summer turns to fall and fall turns to winter, we celebrate times of both war (Veteran's Day) and peace (Thanksgiving). Write about any kind of contrast or change. Send us stories and poems about your internal war and peace.
December: Memories of Winter- Tell us about your favorite holidays, your first toboggan, what you want in your stocking this year. Write about the cold mornings and hot cocoa, or how you plan to change in the new year.
January: Choose Your Own Adventure- Over winter break, students will have the opportunity to vote on a theme/genre for the month of January. Those themes include: Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Noir/Mystery, Rewrite History/What If?, Heroes, and Contributor submitted ideas.
February: Love- Each week will be assigned a different kind of love: Love of Family/Friends, Love of Self, Love of What You Do, and, of course, Romantic Love
March: Spring Into A New You- Do some spring cleaning and spill your mind onto us. Tell us how you've changed through high school, what you want to become, and what personal transformation means to you.
April: April Fools'- It's not just on the first day of the month this year, April Fools' Day is a month long celebration of funny stories, comedic poems, and humorous memories. Make us laugh, we dare you.
May: Leaving A Legacy and Passing the Torch- As our Senior class prepares to depart, we have a last chance to make our mark on high school. Make it count. Lead the way for those who follow.
